Sharon Henry-Blythe, a day-care executive and mother, was elected chairwoman of the Minneapolis school board Tuesday night in a move designed to provide calm leadership during rocky financial times.
Minneapolis, the state's largest school district, faces a more than $20 million budget gap for the 2003-04 school year as a result of rising costs and lower-than-expected state revenue. District officials are expected to outline proposed budget cuts next week.
