Jan. 16--WASHINGTON -- Senate Republicans and Democrats on Wednesday appeared to be close to resolving a power dispute that had threatened to hold up their deliberations over such issues as tax cuts and spending.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., and Democratic leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota settled differences over paying for committee staffing, but were still working late Wednesday on details involving one Senate committee. Once an agreement is struck, Republicans will take full control of the Senate.
