WASHINGTON STATE: SLOWER ECONOMY BEGINS TO BITE

OLYMPIC, Wash., Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Washington's labor force felt the impact of a slowed economy as the unemployment rate climbed from 4.3 percent in September to 4.6 percent in October, according to Employment Security Acting Commissioner Israel David Mendoza.

"Normally October's unemployment rate is the low for the year," Mendoza said. "This sudden shift is the first hint that higher oil prices and a weakened national economy may be beginning to bite."
