2003 JAN 22 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- WellSpring Pharmaceutical Corporation commented on findings of the ALLHAT hypertension study, the National Institutes of Health's study on antihypertensive and lipid-lowering treatments for heart attacks.

The study concluded that certain diuretic drugs are more effective than newer, more expensive drugs in treating high blood pressure and preventing some forms of heart disease.

Officials with WellSpring remind, however, that diuretics, if used alone for extended periods, can result in electrolyte imbalances and the loss of vital minerals such as potassium.
