Arthur T. Gregorian of Concord, founder of the world-renowned Newton Oriental rug store that bears his name, died of cancer Tuesday at his home. He was 93.
Born in a mud-brick Armenian village near Lake Urmia, his family was driven out by the Ottoman Turks in 1918. They fled to a British-run refugee camp several thousand miles away in Basra, Iraq, traveling for two years in an ox cart. In 1921, Mr. Gregorian arrived at a quarantine and detention center at Rowes Wharf in Boston. He settled in New Britain, Conn., graduating from New Britain High School.
