Australian-based Virgin Blue has announced fleet expansion plans, with an order of up to 50 Boeing 737 jets. Virgin Blue CEO Brett Godfrey said that the new aircraft had been ordered in preparation for the airline's first international flights, scheduled to begin in late 2003. Virgin Blue is expected to take delivery of the first 10 Boeing 737-800s between August 2003 and March 2004, with the extra 40 options to be converted to firm orders over the eight years to 2011. However, aviation analysts have tipped that Virgin Blue is likely to acquire 10 aircraft each year, with the fleet of 50 delivered by late 2008. ...
