Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Ohio State's Jim Tressel earned the Bear Bryant Award on Thursday for the nation's top college football coach.
Tressel guided the Buckeyes to their first consensus national championship since 1968. Ohio State defeated the Miami, 31-24, in double OT. The Hurricanes also had its 34-game winning streak halted.
Ohio State improved to 15-19 all-time in bowl games, including 2-1 in the Fiesta Bowl.
Tressel, who also won four I-AA championships with Youngstown State, captured the honor over Miami's Larry Coker and six other finalists. The Bear Bryant Award is ...
