Detroit businesses are benefiting from the North American International Auto Show to the tune of more than $300 million this year, and it's not all spectacular lights and music, fancy meals and hotel rooms, or miles of carpeting - some of it is even more concrete.
Ask Mike Heidebrink, president of Surface Concreteworks Inc., for whom a chance meeting last fall led to a major contract with General Motors Corp. for its Hummer display.
Surface Concreteworks is but the latest example of how the auto show can be as much a stage for budding small businesses as it is for concept cars.
