Jan. 17--Miami-Dade County officials have upheld an order to halt work on a section of the 300-acre Shoma Homes project near Saga Bay.
The original order, issued last month, came after officials concluded the developer was not complying with rules spelled out in a construction permit.
Among the main complaints: Workers continue hacking away at some protected mangroves without authorization -- about a quarter of an acre, officials estimate.
The construction permit, already extended once, expired Dec. 6.
