Wisconsin residents have generally high hopes for Gov. Jim Doyle -- except when it comes to him solving the state's massive budget deficit.
The latest Badger Poll, taken just after Doyle's inauguration earlier this month, shows that more than half of those polled believe he will do either a good or an excellent job, while about a third believe he will do a fair or poor job.
That's a far cry from his Republican predecessor, Scott McCallum, whom Doyle defeated in last fall's election. Two-thirds said they think Doyle will do a better job than McCallum.
