Jan. 18--CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa--A Cedar Rapids-based shipping company has submitted a plea agreement in connection with the dumping of industrial waste into the Mississippi River in Louisiana in March 1998.
Sabine Transportation Co. pleaded guilty Dec. 13 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana to violating the Clean Water Act by dumping 2 tons of industrial waste into the Mississippi River.
The plea agreement calls for Sabine to pay a $200,000 fine, serve three years' probation and develop an environmental compliance program.
