WALNUT CREEK, Calif. _ Athens hasn't even begun construction on a handful of venues for the 2004 Olympics, yet almost 6,200 miles away, one U.S. team will begin building its contribution to the Olympics today in Federal Way, Wash.
The U.S. synchronized swim team becomes the first U.S. national team to host Olympic Trials for the 2004 Summer Games _ exactly 573 days before the opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin. The trials, which also will select members of the junior and senior national teams, began Thursday and run through Monday.
