COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. _ If the United States goes to war against Iraq, Northern Command can scramble fighter jets over U.S. cities, marshal thousands of troops to guard potential targets or reposition Navy ships to protect harbors from attack.
Gen. Ralph "Ed" Eberhart, head of Colorado Springs-based Northern Command and NORAD, said last week that war with Iraq could spark an attack on the United States _ from the Iraqi government, terrorists sympathetic to Saddam Hussein or a copycat attacker.
