Gamblers putting up more money at local OTB parlors helped Madison County's bottom line last year.
Capital District Regional Off-Track Betting Corp. gave the county $373,380 as part of its 2002 distribution to 17 municipalities in its region.
Rocco DiVeronica, chairman of the Madison County Board of Supervisors, said the money is extremely useful in Madison County, especially in these days of tight budgets.
"This is more than 1 1/2 percent of our tax (levy)," DiVeronica said, noting each $200,000 constitutes 1 percent of the amount the county raises in taxes. "It's a pretty good shot for us."
