Assembly Speaker John Gard, one of Wisconsin's most powerful lawmakers, owns a home near Madison and sends his children to a private school here, nearly 200 miles away from the district he represents.
Those decisions have the Republican under fire from critics who want him removed from office, contending he no longer lives in the northern district that elected him.
"I don't think he legally should have the office because he lives 99 percent of the time in Sun Prairie," said Al Hager of Lena, a Democrat who has twice lost elections to Gard.
