Customer reward strategies are back with a bang. The launch of Nectar in October has pulled together a number of brands' old schemes under one umbrella. Loyalty Management UK (LMUK) has already signed up Sainsbury's, Barclaycard, BP and Debenhams with a view to driving customer acquisition.

This move is spurring old schemes back into action, as Tesco Clubcard announces a drive to snap up points partners and WHSmith looks to revamp its card. But, is loyalty set to become a crucial customer acquisition and retention strategy, or is it simply a blip on the below the line radar?
