MORRIS MILLER'S Australian Literature: From Its Beginnings to 1935 (two volumes, 1940) has been justly regarded as the flagship of our bibliography. Not as comprehensive as the compiler wished, it is nevertheless a monumental work, still breathing a generosity of spirit and commitment to his subject.
