A scorned Glendale Heights husband received 50 years in prison Friday for burning his wife to death because he believed she was cheating on him.
Ernest Hubbard, 32, showed no reaction as a DuPage County judge imposed the punishment. Prosecutors had asked for an 80-year sentence.
He initially told police he doused his wife, Trijuana, with gasoline and lit her on fire as part of a deranged double-suicide pact in July 1999. He maintained that defense throughout the trial, though he abandoned the excuse during his sentencing hearing earlier this week.
