The Midwest prairie inspires Lou Ann Forbes' rugs, blankets and clothing crafted in felted wool.
Tiger lilies waving red and orange against blue and gold or a Minnesota storm painting in anthracite, other grays and even a little red across the chartreuse of poplars appear on pillows and a coat.
"It was very powerful," said Forbes, showing a photograph of the spring storm. "I thought 'I want to wear this storm.'"
The story of how these natural forces become rugs, throws, upholstery fabrics or even coats is intriguing.
