WALNUT CREEK, Calif. _ A lawsuit filed by forest activists whose eyes were swabbed with pepper spray in an unprecedented and controversial police tactic is headed back to a San Francisco courtroom Thursday after a four-year hiatus.
The activists claim that Humboldt County sheriff's deputies employed excessive force when they used pepper spray on them during three protests in the fall of 1997 over Pacific Lumber Company's logging of ancient redwoods.
