AMID RUMOURS his time is up at Givenchy, Julien Macdonald defied his critics by showing a collection which won rave reviews.

Described as the right balance between sophistication and sex appeal, it included tailored chalk-stripe suits and lavish ball dresses suitable for Oscar night.

There was even a nod to Audrey Hepburn, the legendary "face" of Givenchy - a little black cocktail dress which came with an oversized bow and a short backless shift dress in duchesse satin.
