SAN FRANCISCO -- He is an Internet pioneer, but Marc Andreessen's current legacy is high-tech Houdini. The 6-foot-4 wunderkind, creator of the first commercial web browser, has just completed a deal that will keep his struggling company, Loudcloud, in business. Electronic Data Systems has plunked down $63.5 million to acquire Loudcloud's Internet operations and another $52 million to license its software over the next three years.
