Video chips to bridge image gap Video-processing ICs that enable PCs to manipulate video images in real time are getting significant attention from IC makers. Earlier this month the team of Philips-Components Signetics (Sunnyvale, CA) and VLSI Technology Inc (San Jose, CA) as well as Chips & Technologies (San Jose, CA) released details on their efforts to produce such chips. The Chips & Technologies' chip, codeveloped with board maker New Media Graphics (Billerica, MA), is now sampling, while the Signetics/VTI team hopes to begin sampling its device by mid-1991.
