When should you give your child cold and cough medications? The answer is almost never.
Despite the fact that billions of dollars are spent annually on these medications, there is little evidence that they are effective, especially for young children. The best that you might expect is relief of some of the symptoms; the worst that you might encounter is side effects that could have an impact on your child's behavior and sleep.
