Perhaps Boston's legendary collector Isabella Stewart Gardner would have disapproved. But artist Joseph Kosuth believes the passionate and dedicated arts patron would have been thrilled by the white neon installation on the outside walls of her beloved museum.
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum kicks off its centennial celebration Friday with the opening of installations by Kosuth both outside the museum and in the galleries.
"There is a presumption of conservativism to the museum," said Kosuth, 56, a native of Toledo, Ohio, and a pioneering conceptual artist who has lived and worked in Europe for the past 30 years.
