State wildlife officials said Wednesday a private lab that has reported deer testing positive for chronic wasting disease won't turn over tissue samples to a federal laboratory to verify its results.
The private lab's founder, Konstance Knox, said the Department of Natural Resources is reporting false information about Wisconsin Viral Research and trying to discredit the lab's work.
Knox said the lab received letters from the DNR demanding that it turn over samples. She said the lab has not done so, in part, because it was hired to test the samples from kits sold to hunters by Wildlife Support Services.
