Recently, Bruce Kahn of Madison, a regular reader of this column, sent me a story from the New York Times that told of a dairy farm in Saudi Arabia.
"Forget about the 'giant' California farms, the Saudis have them beat big time," Kahn commented.
How true!
The article told of a 29,000-cow dairy located in the desert, where temperatures often reach 120 degrees. The cows are raised in a high tech environment with six milking parlors, by workers from 22 countries.
It also related that the Saudi Arabian dairy industry dates back to1973, when the royal family realized that the country was vulnerable to food ...
