The Brazilian steel industry is innovating aiming to regain market on the packaging segment where it faces strong competition with aluminum, PET, glass and tetra pak. According to the CSN (Companhia Siderurgica Nacional) packaging marketing manager Sergio Iunis, the market moves R$1.7bil per year. The main innovation comes from Bertol, from the Rio Grande do Sul state, which is launching the expanded steel can. The company forecasts a 20% increase on its turnover and 4% on market share, from 11% to 15% in 2003.
