Jan. 27--SAN PEDRO, Calif.--From her back deck, Janet Gunter once enjoyed a panoramic view of the California coast and the Pacific Ocean.
Today, huge cranes at the Port of Los Angeles and a 600-acre land mass built from dredged soil block much of the view that brought Gunter and her family to their hillside home 21 years ago.
"We knew the port was there when we bought our house," she said. "But who would have thought the port would create land where there was none?"
