Microsoft founder Bill Gates has donated $A340m for research into "diseases of the poor" such as malaria and tuberculosis. The Global Forum on Health Research indicates only 10% of medical research funding is spent on diseases and conditions comprising 90% of the world's health problems. The majority of funding is directed towards heart disease, cancer and other diseases common in industrialised countries. Gates announced the research program at the World Economic Forum at Davos.
