JAKARTA, Jan 17 Asia Pulse - The agreement between the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) to suspend a telephone rate hike received a cool response from many residents in several parts of the country yesterday.

"The delay in the telephone rate hike will have no impact whatsoever as the recent increases in the prices of basic commodities were not caused by the telephone rate hike but by fuel price and electricity rate hikes," Mrs. Winarsih, a housewife in Surabaya, capital of East Java, said yesterday.

She said the delay in the telephone rate hike would only benefit a certain group of people because not all people used telephone.
