Even in his final hours, Giovanni Agnelli, 81, was trying to influence his family's hold on Fiat.
The honorary chairman of the Fiat group died Friday, Jan. 24, after a battle with prostate cancer, hours before a family shareholders' meeting that was expected to confirm his younger brother Umberto as the family head.
Giovanni Agnelli knew he couldn't attend, but he drafted the guidelines for a strategy session the night before.
Umberto Agnelli, 68, takes over the family holding company, which controls 34 percent of the voting rights in Fiat S.p.A. He also is expected to become chairman of Fiat S.p.A. in May, ...
