Jan. 30--AIKEN, S.C.--The Savannah River Site plant that produced plutonium for the Cold War is clear of its highly radioactive legacy waste.
The last of the dangerous liquid was piped from F-Canyon about 1 a.m. Wednesday, according to Fran Poda, a spokeswoman for Westinghouse Savannah River Co.
Westinghouse runs daily operations at the Department of Energy reserve.
The department decided last year to deactivate the area, which hadn't produced plutonium in years.
