Christa McAuliffe's backup to fly the disastrous Challenger mission in 1986 is finally heading to space.
Former teacher Barbara Morgan, now 51 and a trained astronaut, will fly on a shuttle flight to the International Space Station in 2004. NASA selected the former teacher in 1998 as the first education mission specialist.
NASA spokesman Kyle Herring says mission details are unclear, but a potential video link will allow Morgan to talk to children while she's in space. Herring adds that the educator mission specialist program will be ongoing as educators remain good role models for children.
