The North Central wrestling team had a successful week. The Cardinals defeated 25th-ranked University of Chicago 27-20 last Wednesday and then placed third in the Private College Championships hosted by Lawrence University Saturday in Appleton, Wis. In the Chicago meet, they were led by Jeff Jones (141 pounds, Wheaton North), whose pin of Chicago's Ai Nguyen at 3:38 gave North Central a 21-20 lead. Shawn Beene won his 133 match by pinning Sam Kunkel at 4:00. Patrick O'Connor was a winner at 174. In Saturday's tournament, Brian Taylor won the 125 class and David Schultz came in second at 285. Jones, Beene and John Murphy (165) all registered third-place finishes.
