Feb. 1--DURHAM, N.C.--For a decade, the Pan-Pan Diner has been a beacon on Interstate 85, beckoning hungry travelers, haggard graduate students, dressy churchgoers, chatty retirees and twenty-somethings after a night of clubbing.
But when the diner serves its last heapings of soul food Sunday, the all-you-can-eat buffet will be over. The Pan-Pan, one of the region's rare 24-hour diners, will be swallowed by the highway, which the state is widening.
