The fat-soluble vitamins are vitamins A, D, E and K. Except for vitamin D which can be manufactured by the body, provided the skin gets enough exposure to sunlight, the fat-soluble vitamins cannot be synthesized in adequate amounts by the body so they have to be provided for in the diet. Furthermore, in the intestines, they can only be absorbed if fat absorption is taking place normally.
