Feb. 4--GOLDSBORO, N.C.--Even as big deployments for a possible war in Iraq teach North Carolina's military towns another hard lesson about the economic benefits bases bring, a panel that makes recommendations to the governor is pushing to spread the message that the bases are big business for the entire state.
The N.C. Advisory Commission plans to commission a $20,000 study of the military's impact on the state's economy. The group would use the information to persuade the public -- and the legislature, when it comes time to pay for incentives -- that the ...
