Introduction: A Woman's Place at Work
Brazilian women account for 51% of our country's total population, a figure consistent with global realities. In the 1980s, we comprised 31.8% of Brazil's economically-active population, today, this figure has risen to 40%. In Sao Paulo alone, women now make up 42.7% of the economically-active population, and most are young women (age 18 to 39) who are married and have young children. Most of these working women live far from their places of work, and long commutes add to their double workday.
