The skies over the Denver area remain uncongested despite a massive population increase in the past 10 years, air traffic experts say.
On average, the metro area saw an estimated 3,304 takeoffs and landings each day in 2002 - just 24 more than in 1993, according to a Rocky Mountain News analysis of operations at the four airports that account for almost all of the air traffic above Denver and surrounding communities.
Those numbers belie the perception that developed in the wake of a Jan. 24 midair collision over northwest Denver - namely, that air traffic has overcrowded the skies in the past ...
