Feb. 5--WASHINGTON--A top U.S. diplomat said Tuesday the United States will talk directly with North Korea about its nuclear weapons program.
"Of course we're going to have to have direct talks with the North Koreans, there's no question about it," Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee at the first of a series of hearings on U.S. policy toward Korea.
Armitage said the U.S. military is prudently planning to have forces available if "North Korea would, in some fashion, try to take advantage of our focus ...
