RICHMOND -- Virginia couples soon may be able to choose between two types of marriage: regular and premium.
The House of Delegates on Tuesday passed a bill that would let prospective life partners upgrade to a ``covenant marriage.`` It would require them to undergo counseling before getting hitched and before divorcing.
The new type of marriage, proposed in HB2793, is completely voluntary and intended as a means of helping to keep families intact, said Del. Robert F. McDonnell, R-Virginia Beach, the bill's sponsor. His measure passed by a 62-36 vote.
