CINCINNATI -- CINCINNATI, Feb. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Midland Company , a highly focused provider of specialty insurance products and services, today reported fourth quarter 2002 net income before capital gains/losses of $7.7 million, or 43 cents per share, compared with $9.3 million, or 51 cents per share, in 2001. These results were ahead of the previously announced expectations. Net income (including capital gains/losses) also was $7.7 million, or 43 cents per share, for the quarter compared to net income of $9.7 million, or 53 cents per share, last year, which included $0.4 million, or 2 cents per share, of after-tax realized investment gains.
