Hyderabad, India (Sports Network) - Second-seeded Thai Tamarine Tanasugarn was a quarterfinal winner Thursday, but fourth-seeded Frenchwoman Mary Pierce went by way of the upset at the inaugural WTA Indian Open.
Tanasugarn handled Russian Maria Kirilenko, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, while unheralded Italian Flavia Pennetta dismissed the fading Pierce, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, on the outdoor hardcourts at SAAP Stadium.
