Feb. 9--They're green, they're cute and they have lots of admirers, but Con Ed says the Monk parakeets of southern Brooklyn have got to go.
The power company wants the birds to stop nesting on its high-voltage utility poles.
"The birds carry diseases, but the real problem is their nests," said Michael Clendenin, a Con Ed spokesman. "They just can't build nests on utility poles. It's not safe. The nests could spark a fire or cause a power outage."
