Tourism is growing in importance and clout in lower Fairfield County, according to Steven Paganelli, executive director of the 13-community Coastal Fairfield County Convention & Visitor Bureau in Norwalk.
He cites four statistics to prove his point: Tourism is a $1.1 billion industry that employs 15,000 people and generates $100 million in local and state tax revenues.
"That translates to $451 in (tax) savings for the average household," Paganelli said.
The convention and visitor bureau includes the communities of Greenwich, Stamford, Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Wilton, Westport, Weston, Fairfield, Easton, Bridgeport, Monroe and Stratford.
