While prominent burger chains are engrossed in a price war, Yum Brands units KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell are adding and emphasizing better food, reported Forbes.com (Jan. 8). Yum restaurants are pushing higher-priced items, such as Pizza Hut's Chicago Dish pizza ($13) and Taco Bell's Southwest Steak Border Bowl ($3.50), to strengthen dine-in business.
Louisville, KY-based Yum Brands now has 33,000 restaurants in five major chains. The company is searching for ways to improve the quality of its food by using feedback from taste testers, which, for example, prompted KFC to move extra-crispy Buffalo chicken into test markets, along with apple pie.
