On Nov. 19, Safeway Inc., which initially threatened to close down Dominicks Finer Foods if unionized workers went on strike, reached a tentative contract agreement, avoiding a threatened a strike. The agreement includes a commitment by Safeway to try to sell the Chicago, IL-based unit, according to a spokeswoman for the union. The new contract, which is subject to a vote by the union's membership, contains all the terms and conditions of the expired contract, as well as a bonus for members once it is ratified.
Furthermore, Safeway agreed with its Dominicks employees to find ways to make Dominicks more attractive to potential buyers. The chain will work "hard to ...
