While Central New York lacks buried pirate loot and sunken chests of gold, that's not to say other riches don't abound.
Late last month, a 170-year-old painting by folk artist Sheldon Peck - once stored in the Cayuga Museum's attic - sold at Christie's auction house in New York City for $580,000. Hidden in some of the region's smaller museums and libraries are other historical treasures waiting to be dug up.
