It was as official, and as necessary, as the farewells to
Michael Jordan will get, that cable fodder from Atlanta on Sunday night, the once must-see assembly of long men in short pants, reminding us that Jordan's worst contribution to basketball might be the baggy drawers that would come on most of us to our ankles.
Loud music, fawning friends, flattering old enemies, the promise of a rise to greatness one more time, all the trappings of fantasy, a night to remember for Jordan, if he had not so many others. It was a tribute too far.
Only for Jordan could the uncertainty churn over ...
